Church History: From Jerusalem to the Ends of the Earth
In the book of Acts we read about the very first church, which was established in Jerusalem after the ascension of Jesus. It was just a small gathering of believers, committed to serving God and proclaiming the message of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Yet out of that one church was birthed a movement which would lead to a global community of believers; Christians spread out in all corners of the globe, just as we witness today.
Over this 6-week course we are going to study the rise and expansion of the Christian Church, from Jerusalem to the surrounding areas, through to the different continents of the world. We will cover how Christianity went from being a Jewish offshoot to its own religion, we’ll talk about the Reformation, the emergence of different Christian denominations and some recent developments which have produced the Church climate that we find ourselves in today.
We will cover some of the highlights and lowlights of the Church; how Christians have both impacted society for good and for bad, and how throughout it all God has continued to build his Church, for his glory. Do join us for this journey through the last two millennia of Christian history, to learn more and to gain a fresh understanding of the history of the Church.
